If you are here it means you prefer the DIY approach, which I totally understand. These days it’s not that hard to find out how to complete any type of job if you have access to the internet.
Take YouTube for instance. If you want to know how to build, cut or shape anything this website has it all. What you will see though, is that it’s way easier to complete a woodwork project if you get your hands on a table saw, which is an excellent power tool for making wood trim, siding, and a lot more.
You can battle away using a handsaw, T-square, and break you back in the process or you can hire a contractor, but that’s going to cost most people money they don’t have. Sure, buying a table saw will mean an initial financial layout as well, but think how quickly you can complete those DIY jobs and you won’t have to rely on (or pay for) someone else to do it for you.
One table saw I believe deserves a place on my website is the DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch table saw.
Basic Features
I chose to review this particular table saw because DEWALT is a reputable company which, (among other tools) make superb table saws. Also, this one has a rolling stand which makes it incredibly convenient. But, let’s look at the specs first which are more important.
Tilted Ripping Fence for Narrow Cuts
The table measures 26 x 22 inches which should be enough for most applications. The saw can make cuts ranging in depth from 3-1/8-inch at 90 degrees, to 2-1/4-inch at a 45-degree angle. In order to be able to cut through wood with such force a table saw needs to have a powerful motor at its core, and this one delivers because it features a 15-amp motor.
I really like the practical ripping fence which has a flip-over action that allows it to hold two different positions. This comes in handy when you have to cut really narrow pieces of wood.
Table saws are not generally designed to be carried around, but once you need to make some space in your workshop when you’re finished using it, you can move this one fairly quickly. It weighs just 110lbs, and the rolling stand helps as well.
Bye-Bye Dust!
Having a powerful motor is great for the reasons I’ve stated above, but what about all that dust you end up creating? Like most advanced table saws, this one has a 2-1/2-inch dust port at the back end of the unit as well as a 1-1/2-inch dust port off the top of the blade. This dual capability means you can capture dust both above and below the blade leaving your work surface clean at all times. Of course, you have to set up the vacuuming system yourself since it doesn’t come with the table saw.
Fence and Rip Capacity
The rack and pinion fence on this particular table saw is one of the best I have come across so far. You can unlock and lock the fence using one hand, and adjust it to the requirements of the job. Despite such ease of operation, the wood will stay firmly in place no matter how hard you press.
Large 32-1/2 Inch Rip Capacity
One thing that is also great about this table saw is its rip capacity figure: a whopping 32-1/2 inches! Handling such large rip pieces can often be tricky because they are long and heavy which means they can break, or even tip the saw over. However, this one has a rail extension which allows you to handle even the largest cuts. Still, to be completely safe, remember to ask someone for help when working with large sheets of wood.
Safety First
All power tools require some safety measures, but when it comes to table saws safety measures are essential. DEWALT have installed a brand new power switch to this model, and it now includes a Power Loss Reset.
This means that in case of a power outage, unplugged power cord, tripped circuit, or any other interruption the table saw will automatically reset and won’t come back on once power is restored. If it did, it would be a horror movie scenario waiting to happen.
But, the possibility of anything like that happening is eliminated because the switch is electronic. You have to push a green “ON” button before you can run the saw again. Just in case you press the switch by accident, it is protected by a flip-over cover. Additionally, if you have small children you can protect the switch by putting a padlock on it.
Overall
If you were to look at other reviews on this table saw, you will see it is among the highest ranked currently on the market. DEWALT are known for putting a lot of thought into designing and producing high-quality power tools and this one is no exception.
There are some great safety features especially when it comes to power loss, and it’s not super expensive.
